Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has made it clear that he’s ready to hand over power to the newly elected governor and deputy governor, whether outgoing governor Godwin Obaseki is present or not.
This statement comes amidst rumors that Obaseki might not attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new governor and deputy governor.
The Governor-Elect Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate who won the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial poll in Edo State, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party’s Asue Ighodalo, is scheduled to be sworn in today.
Shaibu during an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, expressed willingness to hand over to the new governor, Monday Okpebholo, and his deputy.
He said: “I am so excited and happy, just in a hurry to go and handover to the governor and deputy governor-elect.
“The office of the Governor is one, so if the Governor is not present, the deputy governor will hand over. So whether he is there or not, I am ready to hand over to the new deputy governor-elect of Edo State. Immediately after the swearing-in, we’ll go to the office and I’ll handover all the documents.”
