Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest of five suspected criminals in connection with a recent robbery incident in Iwo town. The suspects, Taiwo Adekunle, Adebayo Opeyemi, Hasan Ibrahim, Oba Wasiu, and Olajide Oladapo, were paraded at the Command headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday.
According to Deputy Police Public Relations Officer ,Giwa-Alade Emmanuel, the robbery occurred on August 14, 2024, at 9:30 pm when the gang broke into a house in Adeeke, Iwo, and stole various items, including credit cards, cash, and a phone valued at N330,000. The complainant challenged the robbers, causing them to abandon a motorcycle and a locally made pistol.
The investigation led to the arrest of Taiwo Adekunle, who revealed his role in delivering stolen vehicles to buyers. Further investigation and intelligence gathering led to the arrest of other suspects, including Oladapo Olajide in Akure, Ondo State, where a stolen Ford Jeep was recovered . The suspects have confessed to the crime, and locally made pistols were recovered.
Recovered exhibits include 2 fabricated pistols, an empty cartridge shell, a Ford Jeep with registration number SMK945OS, a Hunter motorcycle with registration number WWD604QF, empty shell cartridge, one iPhone and iron magnet.
The police are still searching for another suspect, Alfa Bashiru, who is at large.
Giwa-Alade further revealed that the arrested persons will be charged to court after completion of investigation by detectives.
