Kindly share this story

The Federal Government has debunked claims that candidates under 18 are barred from taking secondary school exams like WAEC and NECO. Minister of State for Education, Yussuf Sununu, made this clarification during the International Literacy Day ministerial briefing in Abuja on Friday, September 7, 2024.

Mr. Sununu emphasized that there is no age limit for students to sit for these exams, providing equal opportunities for all. Additionally, he announced that the ministry is developing criteria to consider exceptional underage students for admission into federal higher institutions, indicating a possible exception to the age rule in extraordinary cases.

According to the Minister, this policy aims to alleviate concerns and ensure that all eligible students can participate in these crucial exams without age-related restrictions.
