The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to tackling environmental issues and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on SDGs, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, reiterated this at a press conference about the inaugural Lagos Sustainability Summit scheduled for September 12.

The summit, themed: “Building a Resilient and Sustainable Lagos: Collaborative Approaches for Environmental Protection and Safety,” aims to position Lagos as a model of sustainable urban development.

The one-day event will focus on achieving a balance between social equity, economic prosperity, and environmental stewardship.

Finnih emphasised that the Lagos State Government is committed to creating a resilient and sustainable environment, ensuring equity and prosperity, and promoting ethical business practices that benefit both current residents and future generations.

The summit is organised by the Office of Sustainable Development Goals (OSDG) in partnership with the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and the Lagos State Safety Commission.

“The Lagos State Sustainability Summit exemplifies our collective resolve, it is a significant event driven by the collaborative efforts of key agencies including the Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals, the Lagos State Safety Commission, and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency. This event underscores that the future we seek is both a vision and a responsibility, requiring our steadfast commitment and innovative solutions,” Finnih stated.

Supporting Finnih, the Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, noted that the summit will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including government officials, private sector leaders, civil society organisations, and international partners. The goal is to foster dialogue, share insights, and develop innovative solutions to address pressing sustainability challenges and improve safety across the state.
