The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) observer team has monitored the Osun PDP chairmanship primaries, emphasizing the importance of adhering to electoral laws. The team, led by Pastor Bunmi Ibiloye, met with the Osun PDP Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi, at the party secretariat in Osogbo on Monday.
Hon Bisi assured the OSSIEC team that the Osun PDP would submit the names of chairmanship candidates and their running mates within the constitutional framework, in conformity with the law. Pastor Ibiloye emphasized that the commission would be thorough in enforcing the law, as outlined in the timetable for the February 2025 local government elections.
The OSSIEC team is collating reports from its monitoring teams across the 30 local governments, aiming to make the Osun local government elections a model for state electoral bodies. Pastor Ibiloye urged political parties to be aware of the legal requirements, stating that the commission would not entertain “sacred cows.”
Hon Bisi visited local government headquarters, expressing satisfaction with the primary election conduct. He commended party members for upholding democratic ideals. The OSSIEC monitoring team includes Engr Rauf Olalere, Barrister Adeniyi Owolabi Abioye, Mrs Mobolaji Niniola, and Mr Folaranmi Timothy.
Results from the chairmanship primaries are expected to conclude the PDP candidate selection process, which began last week.
