Amnesty International (AI)has strongly denounced the recent actions of the Nigerian Police Force against the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero.
The organization’s director, Isa Sanusi, issued a statement criticizing the new allegations of terrorism financing against Ajaero and other NLC leaders, calling it a blatant attempt to intimidate and silence unionists.
Amnesty International urged the authorities to put an end to this “brazen impunity” and respect the rights of labor unions to freely express their opinions and engage in peaceful dissent, whether in agreement or disagreement with government policies.
The organization emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of civil society organizations, including labor unions, to operate without fear of reprisal or intimidation.
