Kindly share this story

The House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development has directed that the processing of all contracts for 2024 in the Ministry of Women Affairs be suspended.

The Committee issued the directive while interrogating the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye on Wednesday.

This is as the Committee commenced investigation of the alleged diversion of N1.5billion meant for payments of contractors despite release of funds.

The Committee questioned the Minister on expenditures such as the spending of N45million for a New Year party, N20 million for sanitary pads, and N1.5million for vehicle fuel.

The Chairperson of the Committee Mrs. Kafilat Ogbara clarified that the hearing aimed to uncover the truth, not a witch-hunt.

Responding, the Minister denied allegations of misappropriation, overspending, and non-payment to contractors.

The session was adjourned after it got rowdy due to a series of arguments during the engagement.
