A man identified simply as Mr Azeez has lost his life after he jumped into the lagoon to escape from those chasing him for theft in Lagos.
Azeez was reportedly accused of stealing bags of cement by one Elijah who wanted to apprehend him at the time.
To avoid being caught, Azeez was said to have jumped into the lagoon and apparently could not swim out.
While confirming the unfortunate incident, the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Sunday, stated that a senior official of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported the incident.
Hundeyin said, “He (the LASEMA official) received a call that there was an accident at Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.”
The police image maker continued, “On getting there, he met a large crowd gathered by the waterside watching the lifeless body of a man, who was later identified as Azeez.”

“He was later confirmed dead by the paramedics of the Pre-Hospital Care, Lagos. It was discovered that one Elijah was pursuing the deceased before he jumped into the lagoon.”
“He was alleged to have stolen some bags of cement.”
“The scene of the accident was promptly visited by the police, who removed the corpse and deposited it at the mortuary for autopsy and preservation.”
