Lagos Governor Honors Chess Champion Tunde Onakoya

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, warmly welcomed Nigerian chess maestro Tunde Onakoya to the Lagos House, Ikeja, following his triumphant return from New York City, where he etched his name in history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, spanning an impressive 60 hours.

Sanwo-Olu, in a display of admiration for Onakoya’s indomitable spirit and unwavering determination, underscored the significance of his journey, portraying it as a quintessential embodiment of the resilient, ambitious ethos that defines Lagos.

Emphasizing the transformative power of Onakoya’s vision to uplift and empower the youth through chess, the Governor pledged unwavering support from the state, promising ample resources to fuel Onakoya’s noble cause.

Together with his American counterpart, Shawn Martinez, Onakoya shattered the previous record set by Norwegian players, thereby solidifying his place as a beacon of inspiration and a catalyst for positive change in the realm of chess and beyond.
