The Northern Senators Forum has named Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua as its new chairman following the resignation of Bauchi Central Senator, Abdul Ningi.
Ningi tendered his resignation as the leader of the NSF after he was handed a three-month suspension at the Senate on Tuesday.
He was suspended by the Senate after Jimoh Ibrahim, Ondo Senator moved the motion, over the controversial BBC Hausa interview he (Ningi) had, where he said there were two versions of the 2024 budget passed in the National Assembly.
Yar’Adua replacing Ningi is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the lawmaker representing Katsina Central in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
In a statement on Thursday, the forum also named Senator Tahir Mungono representing Borno North as its spokesperson to replace Senator Sumaila Kawu.
The Senate warned Kawu to stop sharing posts capable of causing unrest in the country aftermath of the allegations of N3 trillion budget padding made by the Bauchi senator.
Yar’Adua replacing Ningi is the younger brother of the former President of Nigeria, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who died in office in 2010.
He is also the younger brother and former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua who died while imprisoned by the Abacha government in Abakaliki in 1997.
