OSUN STATE GOVERNMENT INSTALLS BARRICADES ON OLAIYA FLYOVER BRIDGE

Kindly share this story

In a move to ensure public safety, the Osun State Government has erected barricades at the Olaiya flyover bridge in Osogbo, restricting access to articulated vehicles.

This development follows weeks of announcements and a directive from Governor Ademola Adeleke in October to ban heavy-duty trucks from plying the route.

A recent visit to the location by OIFM’s correspondent, Michael Leshi revealed massive iron beams mounted at the MDS and Osun Mall sections of the bridge, effectively blocking the entry points for heavy-duty vehicles.

Senator Ademola Adeleke had directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ban heavy-duty trucks from plying the path in the state capital, citing safety concerns based on technical reports on the bridge’s condition.

During a security council meeting in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke emphasized the importance of protecting the bridge from potential collapse and preventing unforeseen incidents caused by heavy trucks.

This was contained in a statement issued by Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, and made available to newsmen.

The barricades will allow only cars and buses to pass through, ensuring a safer environment for road users.
