President Bola Tinubu has announced that Nigerian motorists can choose between buying petrol at N1,000 per litre or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at N200 per standard cubic metre. This move is part of the government’s effort to provide alternative fuel options and reduce the country’s reliance on petrol.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian leader stated that CNG initiative is a cleaner and more affordable fuel option, which will not only reduce carbon footprint but also save consumers significant fuel costs. He emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in driving the transition to cleaner and more affordable energy solutions for Nigerians ¹.
The President commended NIPCO’s contributions to the nation’s energy transition efforts, particularly its support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).
“Nigeria’s motorists can buy petrol at N1,000 per litre or purchase the equivalent gas per Standard Cubic Meter at N200. We have also introduced incentives for commercial motorists to convert from petrol to gas free of cost,” President Tinubu said.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to creating a favorable environment for private sector investment, President Tinubu emphasized the need for continued innovation in expanding CNG infrastructure, which will drive energy efficiency and support Nigeria’s economic growth.
