The Nigeria Senate has expressed displeasure over the reported allegations of involvement in drug deals by its Deputy Leader, Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru.
The upper legislative chamber made this known on Tuesday after Ashiru moved a motion on an order of privilege.
The NDLEA recently claimed that a raid on Senator Ashiru’s residence in Ilorin, Kwara State, led to the discovery of illicit drugs.
The Senate has now set up a six-member ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged drug trafficking allegations leveled against the lawmaker representing Kwara South Senatorial District. The committee is to headed by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
The committee has been tasked with summoning the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to provide clarification regarding the claims.
