The DG/CEO of NIMC, ENGR Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has stressed the importance of birth and National Identification Number (NIN) registration to foster development in Nigeria.
Engr Coker-Odusote, stated at the Launch of the Renewed Hope initiative project to accelerate birth registration in Nigeria, that the cordial partnership between the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the National Population Commission (NPC) in accelerating birth and National Identification Number (NIN) registration is testament to the achievement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, renewed hope agendum on the strengthening of Digital identity and birth registration in Nigeria.
She commended the NPC for accelerating and digitalizing birth registration and promised that the NIMC will continue to be a veritable partner in spearheading the country’s social and educational re-engineering.
The NIMC DG stated, ‘Birth registration is not only important for the individual; it is also crucial for the development of the nation’. She reiterates that digital birth and NIN registration will scale up access to government education, health care and other social benefits not only to the child but to all Nigerians. She emphasises that birth registration is a fundamental right and a key component of the nation’s developmental plans.
The DG enjoins the civil society, international partners and everyone to work together to ensure that birth registration becomes a universal practice in Nigeria. She stated that NIMC would continue to provide seamless NIN registration to all Nigerians, most especially children below the age of 16 years.
Engr Abisoye Coker-Odusote thanked the First Lady, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, for her steadfast support towards the success of the NIN and birth registration in Nigeria.
