Comrade Ayodele Agboola, Chairman of Orisun Igbomina Broadcasting Network (OIBN), has disclosed that his passion for youth development and growth of grassroots sports motivated him to initiate the Orisun Igbomina Football Competition in Osun State.
In an online chat with OIFM correspondents from his base in the US, Agboola explained that the competition aims to discover and harness talents, promote healthy competition among youths, and develop grassroots soccer.
The inaugural edition, featuring 13 men’s football teams from Ila Local Government, kicked off on August 19 at the Ila Township Stadium in Ila-Orangun LGA, Osun State.
Sanctioned by the Football Association and Professional Referees Council in Ila LGA, the Orisun Igbomina Football Competition has lived up to the expectations of soccer enthusiasts in the state. The ongoing contest has been a thrilling ride for fans, with electrifying matches, stunning goals, and heart-stopping moments that have left them on the edge of their seats. The atmosphere has been electric, with supporters from different teams cheering, chanting, and waving flags to urge their teams on.
As the competition continues to gather momentum at the Ila Township Stadium, fans are eagerly anticipating the quarter-final stage, which promises to be an unforgettable one.
The final match is scheduled for September 4, 2024, with the winner receiving a mouthwatering prize and medals.
