A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has released six men who were detained for nearly four years for their involvement in the 2020 #EndSARS protest.
The Lagos court acquitted the #EndSARS protesters—Daniel Joyinbo, Adigun Sodiq, Kehinde Shola, Salaudeen Kamilu, Sodiq Usseni, and Azeez Isiaka.
The defendants, who entered a plea bargain agreement, pleaded guilty to breaching public peace and were found guilty by Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi.
In an unexpected turn of events, the magistrate opted for a caution and discharge instead of sentencing, taking into account the defendants’ prolonged detention. This decision marks a significant development in the ongoing cases related to the #EndSARS protests.
