FG Has Paid N3trn Out Of N14.42trn Inherited Infrastructure Projects- Umahi

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has provided a detailed account of the Federal Government’s infrastructure commitments, revealing that the incumbent administration inherited N14.42 trillion worth of ongoing projects as of May 2023.

The minister, during a recent briefing marking his first year in office, noted that these projects encompass 18,932.50 kilometers of roadwork and infrastructure development.

Key highlights from the Minister’s update include N3.12 trillion paid towards inherited projects out of a certified expenditure of N4.73 trillion and N1.61 trillion owed to contractors, projected funding gap of N13 trillion to complete all inherited projects, and potentially exceeding N16 trillion when updated to reflect current market conditions

Umahi addressed recent infrastructure challenges, including natural disasters in the North East and North West regions, and assured that the government is committed to providing lasting solutions.

He also discussed ongoing initiatives, such as the Enugu axis project, and praised the work of local contractors.

The Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of some projects and highlighted efforts to expedite construction and completion.
