The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Damilare Jacob, in connection with a reported case of rape and armed robbery. The incident occurred on July 26, 2024, when a student from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, hired Jacob to transport her to Moro town.
According to the police, Jacob allegedly diverted into a nearby bush, robbed the student of her belongings, and sexually assaulted her. The suspect also allegedly cut her hair and threatened to harm her if she reported the incident.
The police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, disclosed the arrest during a parade of suspects at the state police headquarters on Wednesday.
Opalola further noted that Jacob will face charges in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
She added that the police are committed to ensuring justice is served.
