At the plenary session of the 10th Senate held on Tuesday 28th May, 2024, the lawmaker representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Sen. Ajagunla Olubiyi Fadeyi, presented a bill for the establishment of the Federal Institute of Maritime Transport and Blue Economy in Osun Central. The bill has just passed its First Reading.
The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications, Trade and Investment, Senator Fadeyi, while highlighting the significant advantages of the proposed institute, noted that it will create more employment opportunities for the well-educated youth in Osun Central.
“We are fortunate to have a highly educated youth population in Osun State that needs jobs. This bill focuses on Marine Transport and the Blue Economy sector that promise substantial benefits for our people.
“The establishment of this institute (Maritime Transport and Blue Economy) is anticipated to not only address the unemployment challenges but also to bolster the economic development of Osun Central and Osun State by tapping into the vast potential of the maritime and blue economy sectors.
“The Institute shall be a specialised institution under the Federal Ministry of Transportation with the mandate to provide academic programs, conduct research and offer training in the fields of marine transport, maritime logistics and blue economy.
“The objectives of the Institute shall include but not be limited to conducting research and development activities to promote innovation, sustainability and efficiency in the maritime sector”, Senator Fadeyi noted in his presentation.
The senator further emphasized the importance of diversifying the economy and providing sustainable job opportunities for the youth. Part of the Senator Fadeyi’s legislative efforts to date is the sponsoring of three bills and raising of three motions, demonstrating his commitment to the progress and prosperity of Osun Central and its people.
