The dispute between the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the Federal Government seem to have resurfaced
This time, ASUU has given the government two weeks ultimatum to address all outstanding demands including delay in constituting governing councils for the universities or face a nationwide strike
ASUU’s President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke,in a briefing at its headquarters in Abuja lamented their predicament, saying the living conditions of lecturers are getting worse.
Professor Osodeke insisted that Nigerians should hold the government responsible if the matter of governing councils was allowed to degenerate into an unavoidable industrial crisis
The union also rejected the thirty-five percent salary increment for professors and twenty-five for other academics, describing it as a wage award that could be suspended by the government at any time.
