Kindly share this story

The Kogi State Police Command has disclosed that 14 of the abducted students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Okene, have been rescued.

The students were taken by bandits while preparing for an upcoming examination on Thursday night.

The attack occurred when the bandits entered the university premises through the bush and proceeded to three lecture halls, firing shots into the air.

William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, confirmed to newsmen on Monday the rescue of 14 students and mentioned ongoing efforts to locate and rescue the remaining abducted individuals.

The state government also issued a statement, reporting the successful rescue of some of the students through a combined effort of security operatives and local vigilantes who engaged the kidnappers in a fierce confrontation.

Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring security and noted that several students and other individuals held captive have been rescued and are receiving medical attention.

During a visit to the campus, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo expressed concerns about possible insider collaboration in the abduction, pointing out that despite the installation of CCTV cameras, they were mysteriously disabled during the attack, suggesting sabotage from within.

The government has assured the public of its determination to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of the remaining abducted students. The successful rescue operations reflect the confluence state commitment to robust security measures and the protection of its citizens.
