UK Returns Looted Ghana Artefacts After 150 Years

Kindly share this story

The government of the United Kingdom has finally returned dozens of artefacts looted from what is today Ghana – more than 150 years after they were forcefully moved out of Africa.

In a momentous gesture of cultural restoration, the UK has now repatriated 32 invaluable artifacts to Ghana’s Ashanti Empire. The artifacts, which include a royal sword, necklace, and ceremonial drum, were looted during a British military raid in 1874.

This historic return marks a significant step towards rectifying colonial-era injustices and fostering cultural reconciliation.
