Kindly share this story

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) operatives responded swiftly today at 6:00 PM to a collision on Gbagada Bridge heading towards Gbagada Express Way, Lagos, rescuing a 3-year-old girl and four others.

Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, verified that the rescued individuals were promptly taken to Gbagada General Hospital by LASTMA officials and Lagos State Ambulance Service (Lasambus) personnel.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a driver of a Benz car (JJJ 219 XU) lost control while using a mobile phone and collided with a Volkswagen Commercial bus (APP 46 GZ) parked on the roadside for battery repair.

Mr. Adebayo confirmed that the 3-year-old girl sustained a head injury, while the four others, including the commercial bus driver, suffered fractures in various parts of their bodies.

“LASTMA personnel apprehended the driver of the Benz car (JJJ 219 XU) immediately and handed him over to police officers from Alonge Police Station at Oworonsoki, present at the accident scene,” Mr. Adebayo stated.

“LASTMA personnel promptly cleared the two vehicles from the expressway to ensure smooth traffic flow on Gbagada Bridge towards Gbagada Express Way.”

Hon. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, extended sympathies to the injured victims and stressed the importance of safety, urging all motorists, including commercial bus drivers, to avoid phone use while driving and to refrain from speeding during journeys within or outside Lagos.
