We Will Hold Military Responsible If Any Harm Befalls Edwin Clark- Ijaw Youth Council

Kindly share this story

Following the recent military invasion of the residence of elder statesman, Pa Edwin Clark, located in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Ijaw youths, rallying under the banner of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), have strongly condemned the action.

In a statement released on Wednesday, 27th March, 2024, the IYC vowed to hold the Nigerian military accountable if any harm befalls the Ijaw leader.

Describing the military intrusion as “a great insult on the Ijaw people and highly condemnable,” the IYC expressed profound regret over the incident, stating that it not only tarnishes the dignity of Pa Clark but also shows a profound lack of respect for the elderly.

Amb Binebai Princewill, the spokesperson for IYC Worldwide, voiced their stance during a press conference, underlining the importance for the military to adhere strictly to intelligence-driven operations.

Princewill highlighted the democratic nature of the current era and stated that the invasion and later property damage at Pa Clark’s residence were entirely unjustifiable.

The IYC questioned the reason behind the assault on Pa Clark’s home, citing his distinguished service to the nation as a former senator and the first republican minister of information.

The IYC clearly rejected any statement that Pa Clark harbored criminal elements, stating that such allegations constitute false allegations not only to him but also to the entire Niger Delta community.

Moreover, the IYC expressed concern over the recurring pattern of unwarranted military interventions targeting Ijaw leaders, citing a similar incident at Pa Clark’s Abuja residence in 2018.
