The government of Oyo State has issued a warning to residents, urging them to disregard the circulating news on social media claiming that Governor Seyi Makinde approved a N20,000 Ramadan support fund for 2024.
Residents were cautioned to be wary of fraudulent activities, as the report did not originate from any official government source and lacks credibility.
The viral message, spreading across platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp, alleged that Governor Makinde sanctioned the fund due to the prevailing high inflation, economic challenges, and increased cost of living during Ramadan. It further instructed individuals to apply through a suspicious website.
However, in a statement signed by Governor Makinde’s Special Adviser (Media), Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the government clarified that no such fund was approved by the governor. The statement emphasized that Governor Makinde’s administration upholds transparency and openness in its operations.
The government warned the public to be cautious and not to fall victim to deceitful elements aiming to exploit the current economic circumstances. It stated:
“Please note that there is no ongoing N20,000 Ramadan Support Fund and that the piece of news did not originate from Oyo State Government.
“Governor Makinde has been running an open and transparent government and whatever intervention the government deems fit to add to already-existing measures to cushion the effects of economic hardship on residents of the state will not be done in obscurity.”
