Kindly share this story

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has urged the government at all levels to establish a separate special salary package as an incentive for nurses and midwives, to reduce migration.

During the induction ceremony for state administrative council members in Abuja, Mr. Michael Nnachi, the President of the Association, emphasized that increasing nurse salaries would effectively address the issue of brain drain in the country.

Additionally, Mr. Nnachi called on the Federal Government to appoint nurses to key positions on Federal Boards, to tackle extreme marginalization within the governance structure of health facilities in Nigeria.

Regarding the global strategic directions for nursing and midwifery 2021–2025, adopted by the Seventy-fourth World Health Assembly, Daju Kachollom, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, mentioned that the Ministry has already embraced these directions.

Representing the Ministry’s Director of Nursing Services, Francisca Okafor, the Permanent Secretary confirmed the Ministry’s commitment to diligently achieve the goals outlined in the four pillars of the agenda: education, job creation, leadership, and service delivery.

Dr. Farouk Umar, Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, advised the newly inducted members to uphold the integrity of the nursing profession.
