Nigerian artistes doing Africa proud, says APRiiL

Kindly share this story

An Afrobeats singer, Kabba Sesay, aka APRiilL, has lauded the contributions of Nigerian artistes to the growth of music on the African continent.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said, “With the emergence of artistes such as Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Rema, to name a few, I believe African music is currently having a global impact. These days, there are many artistes in the western world, who are ‘jumping’ on our most successful songs.”

The singer, who is signed to a Sierra Leone-based record label, Law Music Records, stated that he was set to release an Extended Play album titled, Fans of Afrobeats.

Asked to name the highlights of his career, the singer noted that having collaborated with an American hip-hop group, Stetsasonic, was something he won’t forget in a hurry.

The singer also stated that he intended to expand his musical vistas and forge connections across the African music landscape by working with some Nigerian artistes.

He said, “Just travelling to different parts of Africa, I fell in love with the music. But, it seemed like they were ‘hiding’ the music, and I made up my mind to help them spread the music, because it is so beautiful.

“After spending some time in the industry, I have also come to realise that it is really hard to grow in the industry, even if you one is as talented as any other big artiste around the world.

“The chance to be seen is a little; except one is signed to a record label. However, social media can also help artistes to be discovered and showcased.”
